Dozens of outdoor grill carts line the mile-long strip making the Costanera Sur BA\u2019s street food destination. Some say the\u00a0<em>carritos<\/em>\u00a0lost their luster when the government mandated a change from open flame grilling to gas, but it\u2019s still the city\u2019s street cart mecca. Pop up to the grill bar and order whatever looks good on the\u00a0parrilla. $$<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lo de Charly\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u00c1lvarez Thomas 2101, Villa Urquiza.\u00a0<\/em>Lo de Charly might be one of the only parrillas in the world where you can eat an entire grill plate of steak cuts and entrails all before 10 am. That\u2019s right, this neighborhood haven opens 24 hours, 7 days per week. Fun fact: the grill hasn\u2019t been shut off since 1991. $$<\/p>\n<p id=\"1OU98T\"><strong>Parrilla El Litoral\u00a0<\/strong><em>Moreno 2201, Balvanera<\/em>. True aficionados will skip the dining room and brush elbows with locals, who eat pizza while standing in the front bar. This standing-room-only pizzeria, a popular taxi driver hangout, is known for its monster slices of fugazzeta.\u00a0Cheese on cheese on ham on onion on cheese. $<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bandini\u00a0<\/strong><em>Aizpur\u00faa 2899, Villa Urquiza.\u00a0<\/em>Not everyone can handle a cheese-laden Argentine slice.\u00a0If you\u2019re on the hunt for\u00a0an Italian-style thinner crust, Bandini\u2019s wood-fired pizza has your name on it. There are only a few chairs at their Villa Urquiza\u00a0<em>local<\/em>, so eat it curbside or bring the pizza home. It\u2019s really damn hard to find a Porte\u00f1o bodeg\u00f3n that serves consistently good food, made with care, at an affordable price. Is there a nostalgic, picturesque bodeg\u00f3n out there that satisfies\u00a0your stomach and your wallet? I\u2019m talking no-frills\u00a0<em>tapa de asado al horn<\/em>o<em>\u00a0con papas<\/em>, or a solid giant\u00a0<em>milanesa<\/em>\u00a0with perfectly fried french fries. It\u2019s also really damn hard to find a decent french fry, but that\u2019s\u00a0a discussion for another day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to get it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Norte\u00a0<\/strong><em>Talcahuano 953, Recoleta.\u00a0<\/em>The milanesa,\u00a0basically a schnitzel, represents the essence of Argentine meat-and-potatoes comfort food. Veal or chicken is pounded thin, breaded, and deep-fried before being dressed with a plethora of topping options. At Norte, order the milanesa napolitana, a nod to Argentina\u2019s Italian heritage, which is covered in tomato sauce, cheese, and ham. You can order it with a side of\u00a0<em>pur\u00e9<\/em>\u00a0(mashed potatoes) or french fries. $$<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don Ignacio\u00a0<\/strong><em>Av. Rivadavia 3439, Almagro<\/em>. There\u2019s a reason why they call Don Ignacio \u201cthe Milanesa King\u201d. The menu features dozens of milanesas so big that they don\u2019t even fit on the plate. Go with a simple\u00a0<em>suprema<\/em>\u00a0(chicken breast) or get inventive with some of Nacho\u2019s crazy flavors. $$<\/p>\n<p><strong>Club Eros<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Uriarte 1609, Palermo.\u00a0<\/em>Back in my day, when the\u00a0<em>colectivo<\/em>\u00a0cost a nickel,<em>\u00a0<\/em>Club Eros was serving\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/x7a.xanga.com\/0d0c404410132175831295\/b133915239.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\">10 peso steaks<\/a>. Sure, in post-inflation BA those prices no longer hold true, but the sports club with an indoor\u00a0<em>f\u00fatbol<\/em>\u00a0field still prides itself on\u00a0<em>comida popular,\u00a0<\/em>at prices for the\u00a0<em>gente<\/em>. $$<\/p>\n<p><b>El Obrero\u00a0<\/b><em>Agust\u00edn R. Caffarena 64, La Boca.\u00a0<\/em>El Obrero might have lost some of its charm once the city\u2019s Hop-On Hop-Off bus re-routed to funnel tourists by the historic bodeg\u00f3n, but one step inside and you\u2019re transported back to 1910 when the humble joint first catered to Italian working-class immigrants. It\u2019s the epitome of porte\u00f1o dining, a casual cantina serving parrilla, pasta, and Spanish tortilla omelets. The walls are decked out in soccer jerseys, and the dining room is frequented by generations of barrio characters. $$$<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bellagamba\u00a0<\/strong><em>Multiple Locations.\u00a0<\/em>The other day when I looked at Bellagamba\u2019s menu, I thought they gave me an outdated version from 2014. This chain isn\u2019t going to make the 50 Best Restaurant list, but we have to give props for solid\u00a0classic food at incredibly cheap prices. I usually go for the spicy soup with tofu, bok choy and garlic, and sweet and sour eggplant. And it\u2019s China Work, not Wok. $<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shandong\u00a0<\/strong><em>Vera 468, Villa Crespo.<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Shandong AKA China Roots AKA Chino de Vera AKA Da Dong Fan Dian offers everything I ever wanted in a neighborhood Chinese go-to: indifferent service, zero\u00a0<em>onda,\u00a0<\/em>and fairly priced fresh Chinese food. Order of choice: dumplings, dumplings, and more dumplings.
